Doug Sturm

Doug Sturm, 64, of Wayne, died Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

Services will be held Thursday, June 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Journey Christian Church in Wayne. Pastor Justin Raulston and the Rev. Kyle Nelson  will officiate. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Journey Christian Church in Wayne with family present. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne.

Memorials may be directed to the Sturm family for later designation.

Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.

Douglas Alan Sturm was born March 16, 1955 to James H. and Beverly J. (Metcalf) Sturm in Lincoln. He was a 1973 Wayne High School graduate. He attended U.N.L. and graduated from College of Hair Design of Lincoln. Doug and Jeanie (Lutt) Sturm were married from 1979 to 2007 and together they have four children. For a few years, Doug worked for Ellis Barbers in Wayne. He then established his own barbershop, Shear Designs, which he operated for nearly 40 years. Doug was a color commentator for various sports broadcasts with KTCH Radio in Wayne, formerly served on the Wayne City Council for 20 years (12 years as City Council President) and was a member of the Board of Directors for the New Aquatic Center.

Survivors include his mother, Beverly Sturm of Wayne; his children and grandchildren, Robbie (Tina) Sturm (Caden, Nolan, Audrey) of Omaha, Michael (Brooke) Sturm (Chase, Evlyn, Taelyn) of Wayne, Lesli Sturm of Wayne, and Jeremy (Lacey) Sturm (Kelsie, Destinee, Aspyn, Diesel); a brother, Jim (Jackie) Sturm of Lincoln; a sister, Lori (John) Carollo of Wayne; nephews and niece, Tony Carollo, Jason Carollo, Ryan Sturm, Eric Sturm, Cari (Sturm) Rothluebber; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; father, James “Jim” Sturm on June 18, 1993; several aunts and uncles.

Pallbearers will be Brian Bowers, Breck Giese, Dave Anderson, Randy Belt, Roger Saul, Dennis Bentz, Lowell Johnson and Dennis Paul.  

Ushers will be Mike Pieper, Bob Liska, Dan Baddorf and Dennis Lipp.
