Genevieve Rosanne Owens, 89, of Cedarburg, Wis., died Saturday, July 6, 2019.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 16 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church NORTH (1375 Covered Bridge Road, Cedarburg, Wis. 53012) with Father Patrick Burns presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 3 p.m. until the time of service. Genevieve will be buried next to her husband, Haydn, in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fennimore, Wis., where she lived for 45 years.

Genevieve Rosanne Owens was born at home in Crofton on Sept. 20, 1929 to Frank and Martha (nee Pick) Foecke. She received her bachelor’s degree from Wayne State College and master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. She married Owen Haydn Owens in Hartington on Aug. 18, 1952. Genevieve was a teacher for parts of five decades. In Nebraska, she taught in a one-room school for several years, and later taught high school math. While the family lived in Iowa, she was a junior high math teacher after working as a bookkeeper. After the family moved to Wisconsin in 1970 she taught in the Fennimore schools for 21 years, including the 11 years prior to retirement teaching fourth grade, her favorite.
Genevieve and Haydn traveled extensively visiting all 50 states and more than a dozen foreign countries. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, sewing, furniture refinishing, crossword puzzles and watching the Brewers and Packers. She was an avid gardener and always had beautiful flower beds.
Survivors include her sons, Stephen (Sue) of Greendale, Wis., Gregory (Beverly) of Anchorage, Alaska, and two daughters, Karen (Tim Waddell) of Westfield, N.J., and Nancy (Robert Martins) of Cedarburg, Wis.; 11 grandchildren: Becky Owens, Brian (Jess) Owens, Briana Owens, Margo (Chris) Fliss, Keely Owens, Paul Owens, Peter Waddell, Joe Waddell, James Martins, Andrew Martins, Gregory Martins, and great grandchild Ethan Owens; siblings: Mildred (Bob) Cogdill of Dunlap, Iowa, Gerelda (Charles) Tramp of Crofton, Jerome (Carolyn Meinhardt) Froecke of Lictchfield, Minn., Mary Davis of Denver, Colo., Barbara (Charles) MacDonald of Ensacola, Fla., sister-in-law Shirly Foecke of Ocean Springs, Miss., brothers-in-law: Lowell of Greenbelt, M.D, and Stanley of Omaha; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Haydn; her son, Owen Haydn, Jr. “Denny”; parents; siblings Harold Foecke, Dolores (Ferdie) Lintel, Ralph Foecke, Sister Rhoda Foecke, Dennis Foecke, Irene Goeken; brother-in-law, Orvid, and a sister-in-law, Faith.
