Helen M. (Gerlemann) Gelster, age 96, of Omaha, formerly of Wayne, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2018, at Heritage Point Retirement Community in Omaha.
Services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 22. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Omaha. Memorials may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church in Omaha.
Helen M. (Gerlemann) Gelster was born Sept. 19, 1921 to Otto and Emma (Brune) Gerlemann in Wayne. She attended School District 40 and went to Winside High School graduating as valedictorian. She received her teaching certificate from Wayne State College. She taught in country schools for four years, then moved to Omaha where she met Melvin Gelster. They were married June 10, 1951 in Wayne. Helen and Melvin were very active charter members of St. Mark Lutheran Church. She faithfully attended home Husker football games until age 90 when she decided it was too far to walk. They currently own the family farm in Wayne County.
Survivors include husband Melvin of Omaha; two children, Daniel (Mary Ann) Gelster of Omaha and Debra (Tim) Rosheim of Fenton, Mo.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Arnold and Herbert.
