Laurel's Downtown Revitalization Project to be featured at open house

On Monday, June 29 from 4-6 p.m., representatives from engineering firm JEO will be in Laurel during an open house for the community's Downtown Revitalization Project.

"The open house is really intended to give the public a chance to kind of see roughly what the plans are so far from the engineer," Keith Knudsen, chairman of the Downtown Revitalization committee said.

The open house will be held at the Laurel Auditorium. There will be no formal presentation from city staff and consultants, put the public is invited and encouraged to come in and look through the information at their own pace.

The Downtown Revitalization Project has been in the works for about three years and is set to begin during the spring of 2021.

"I encourage residents to stop by and take a look and provide input," Knudsen said. "We really value the input of the public in the project and so this is their chance."

The project will include sidewalk, street, gutter work and more on two blocks of the towns downtown. Completion of the project is expected sometime late summer of 2021.

Laurel's auditorium is located at the intersection of 2nd and Elm Streets. For more information about the open house or the project, contact the Laurel Economic Development office at (402) 256-9614.
