Loren Harold Stoltenberg was born July 13, 1929 in Carroll, to Harold and Esther (Tietgen) Stoltenberg. He was baptized Oct. 6, 1929 and was confirmed on March 21, 1948 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll. He graduated from Carroll High School in 1946. Loren married Jo Ann Volwiler on May 29, 1950. They were married for 67 years. Loren played Legion baseball as a catcher. He and Ron Lage were a force as a catcher/pitcher team. Their proudest moment was when Carroll beat Norfolk in a tournament. Loren followed baseball with a passion. He watched every game he could find and had a comment, opinion and an explanation for every single play. He was not picky about which team to follow – though he was never a Yankee fan. Loren’s passion for sports continued as he traveled as long as he was able to watch his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play baseball, volleyball, football, and golf.

Loren was a farmer. It was his true joy. After retirement, Loren went on to get his real estate license, but found his place when he became a Federal Crop Insurance adjuster. He loved the travel, meeting farmers from all across the country and helping them when disasters had destroyed their crops. Loren and Jo Ann often wintered in Apache Junction, Arizona. Meeting new people and visiting was Loren’s favorite pastime! When his kids were little the family would load up in the car on Sunday afternoons, drive around to look at the crops and inevitably end up at someone’s house to visit.

Loren’s hobby was restoring tractors. He was a member of the Cornhusker Two Cylinder Club. He loved displaying his tractors at the fair and parades. Thanks to family members who hauled a lot of tractors for him in his later years. This past year Loren enjoyed having his 1020 in his garage in Wayne and would make trips with it around town, checking out the golf course and driving to coffee at McDonald’s. Loren was a member at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Wayne.

Survivors include his two children, Vicki (Phil) Fisher of Hastings and Garry (Nancie) Stoltenberg of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Jenny Lauckner, Erica (Matt) Peterson, Ryan (Carrie) Stoltenberg, Jake (Alyson) Fisher, Lindsay (Jamie) Hemmingsen; 11 great grandchildren, one brother Larry (Marilyn) Stoltenberg of Rapid City, S.D.; nieces and nephews.
