Mable Fredrickson Jones
Mable Fredrickson Jones, 95, of Lincoln, formerly of Carroll, died Monday, March 25, 2019 at Careage Campus of Care in Wayne.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18 at Bethany Presbyterian Cemetery of rural Carroll. The Rev. Dan Warnes of First Lutheran Church of Lincoln will officiate.
Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church in Lincoln or Providence Medical Center Hospice in Wayne.
Mable Joy Fredrickson Jones was born April 6, 1923 in Carroll to Christian and Averina (Sylvanus) Fredrickson. She graduated from Carroll High School and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Wayne State College. She began her elementary teaching career in a country school in rural Nebraska and then at Tilden Public Schools and Winside Public Schools. Mable later moved to Lincoln, where she was a first grade teacher with the Lincoln Public School System until her retirement. In 1983, Mable joined her three sisters in wrapping up a total of 146 years in the classroom in Nebraska. The teaching “Fredrickson Sisters” included Mable, Laura Fredrickson, Ethel Malmberg and Ruby Nelson. At that time they were recognized by President Ronald Reagan for their contributions to education. In 1977, Mable married Thomas J. Jones at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Lincoln.
Surviors include her sister, Ruby Nelson of Brookdale-Wayne; three step-children, Mike (Marsha) Jones, Lake St. Louis, Mo., Jim Jones of Seattle, Wash. and Bill Jones of Lincoln; grandchildren, Chris (Mary Beth ) Jones and Stacy Jone; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas, in 2013; and nine brothers and sisters.
