Marcella 'Sally' Hochstein
Marcella "Sally" Hochstein, 96, of Wayne, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne.
Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wayne. The Rev. Jeff Mollner, the Rev. James McCluskey and Deacons Pat Gross and Gary French will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wayne with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne.
Memorials may be directed to the Hochstein family for later designation.
Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.
Marcella Frances (Lange) Hochstein was born Sept. 25, 1922 near Hoskins to Anthony and Helen (McNally) Lange. She was baptized at St. Frances Catholic Church in Randolph. She graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Hartington in 1941. After high school she worked at the Office of Price Administration in Hartington during WWII. Marcella married John Hochstein on Aug. 4, 1943 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington. Following John’s military service the couple farmed near Hartington, then moved to Laurel in 1948. Marcella was a 4-H leader in Cedar County for several years. The family moved to Crawford, Neb. for a time, and then moved to Wayne in 1962 when John started working for Peoples Natural Gas Company. Marcella was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wayne and St. Mary’s Guild. After John’s death in 2003, Marcella moved to The Oaks (Brookdale) in Wayne where she enjoyed her friends and the lovely staff .
Survivors include her children; Roger, (Gail Hochstein of Wayne, Ron (Linda) Hochstein of Richmond, Va., Patrick, (Brenda) Hochstein of Huntsville, Ala. and Joan Marie Rempfer of Stephens City, Va.; 11 grandchildren; Amy Clark (Kevin), Justin (Kelly) Hochstein , Tonja (Jeremy) Graves , Amanda (Jason) Zulkosky, Nicole (Kevin) Addison, Ian (Micaela), John (Ashley) Brogie, Abbey (Zach) Hall and Joe Brogie; 14 great-grandchildren; four siblings Lorita Gubbels of Randolph, Ronald Lange of Randolph, Marjorie Schock of Blue Earth, Minn., and Delwyn Lange of Randolph; and lots and lots of wonderful nieces and nephews who meant the world to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John, in 2003, and son-in-law, Mark Rempfer, in 2014.
Honorary pallbearers will be Marcella’s grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Justin Hochstein, Ian Hochstein, John Brogie, Joseph Brogie, Kevin Clark, Jeremy Graves, Jason Zulkosky and Kevin Addison.
