Patrick H. Murphy, 85, of Wayne, died Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne.
Following C.D.C guidelines, a public Catholic committal service will be Friday, May 8 at 11:30 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne. It will include military rites. Regulated public visitation will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wayne Friday from 10 until 11 a.m.
Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.
Patrick Henry Murphy was born April 14, 1935, at Anthon, Iowa to Thomas and Lenora (Beeson) Murphy. He graduated from Central High School in Sioux City, Iowa. He served in the Air National Guard for six years. Patrick married Mary Ann O’Connor on Aug. 3, 1957 at Immaculate Conception Parish in Sioux City, Iowa. They lived in Sioux City until moving to Wakefield and later to their home in the country near Wayne for 23 years. The couple moved to Norfolk in 2010. Patrick was a hardware sales manager for Knapp & Spencer for 20 years, an insurance agent for New York Life Insurance for 16 years, and then an independent agent until he retired. Patrick was a present member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Norfolk and a past member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wayne.
Survivors include his children; son, Mike (Barb) Murphy of Elkhorn; daughters, Tammy Wirth of Sioux City, Iowa, Patsy (Greg) Kallhoff of Wayne, and Kelly Murphy of Emerson; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Beverly Petekavich of Kingsley, Iowa; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Ann in 2015; daughter, Kathleen in 2007; son-in-law, Jon Wirth; brother-in-law, Tony Petekavich; nephew, Scott Peters; and sister, Judy Peters.
