Richard 'Rick' Lund

    Richard H. "Rick" Lund, 93, of Wayne, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017 at Careage Campus of Care in Wayne.
    Memorial services will be held Saturday, Dec. 2 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Wayne.The Rev. Teresa Bartlett will officiate.    Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne with family present.
    Private burial with military rites will be at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wayne.
    Memorials may be directed to the Wayne American Legion and VFW, Wayne Masonic Lodge #100 A.F. and A.M. or First Presbyterian Church in Wayne.
    Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of  Wayne.
    Richard Harry Lund “Rick” was born Nov. 7, 1924 to Emil and Florence (Rubeck) Lund on a farm north of Wakefield. Later his family moved to the Rubeck farm southwest of Wakefield where he grew up. He attended rural country school and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1941, at the age of 16. After high school, he farmed with his father until age 19 when he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was a World War II veteran, serving the Navy two and one-half years stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Station, Gulfport Miss., Corpus Christi, Texas and the Presidio in California. Richard married Bonnie Nissen on Jan. 29, 1950. They farmed southeast of Wayne for 42 years until 1992, when they retired and moved to Wayne. He was an active member of the Wayne community.  Rick was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Wayne since 1950 where he served as deacon and ordained elder. He was a Worshipful Master Mason of the Wayne Lodge #120 AF and AM, 45 year member of the Wayne Eastern Star, and 70 year member of American Legion Post #43. Rick and Bonnie generously supported the Wayne community, giving as “Friends” of Providence Medical Center and endowing a scholarship at Wayne State College.
    Survivors include a brother-in-law, James (Ginger) Nissen of Lincoln: sisters-in-law, Ruth (Dale) Lund of Fremont; Virginia (Eugene) Lund of New Jersey, and Evelyn (Wayne) Eipperle of Omaha; and many loving nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bonnie, on Jan. 27, 2013; siblings, Ardath Utecht, Dale Lund, Janice Barelman, and Eugene Lund.
    Honorary pallbearers will be Steve and Cindy Meyer, Larry Nichols, Gene Fredrickson, Edward Babcock, Cornell Runestadt, David Ley and Susie Lund.           
    Active pallbearers will be Sam Utecht, Kent Lund, Rick Barelman, Christine Lund, Jeff  Nissen  and George Babcock.
