Shirley Heier, 85, of Lincoln died at the Tabitha Good House in Lincoln on Monday, May 8, 2017.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 11 from noon - 9 p.m. at Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home with family present from 5 - 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, May 12 at 10 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Lincoln.
The family requests memorials be directed to First Lutheran Church of Lincoln, Tabitha of Lincoln, or Lincoln Community Playhouse.
Shirley June Larsen was born June 23, 1931 in Bostwick, Neb. to Howard and Mildred (Day) Larsen. She graduated from Superior (Nebraska) High School in 1949 and Grand Island Business College in 1950. She married Harlan Frederick Heier on June 28, 1953 in Ruskin, Neb. Shirley worked briefly outside the home before her oldest children were born and after her youngest children started school, but her chief vocation was as a homemaker. She also supported Harlan’s career in the Lutheran ministry, serving as a choir member, Sunday School teacher, women’s group leader, or where ever else she was needed in congregations in Davenport, Iowa and Verdon, Schuyler, York and Newman Grove, all in Nebraska. They have belonged to First Lutheran Church of Lincoln since 1997.
Survivors include her husband, Harlan of Lincoln; children, Craig Heier of Lincoln; Beth (Neal) Lurz, of Leawood, Kan.; Keith (Pam) Heier of Kenesaw, Neb.; Joyce (Dan) Templeton of Omaha; Kent (Janice) Heier of St. Joseph, Mo.; and Deanne (Paul) Scheel of Waverly; 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sisters Eleanor (Charles) Stiles of Superior, Joanne (Jim) McChesney of Lincoln and Kathleen (Hugo) Westphal of Syracuse; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and step-mother, Beulah Larsen; her in-laws, Fred and Lena Heier; and grandson Ryan Lurz.
Arrangements are with Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home in Lincoln.
