AREA HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL – Wayne girls come away with win
Here are Friday’s area high school basketball highlights:
Wayne girls come back for 62-50 win – Wayne High used a strong fourth quarter to post a 62-50 win over Battle Creek on the road Friday. The Blue Devils trailed 42-38 going to the final period, but outscored the Bravettes 24-8 in the final period to get their first win of the year.
Wakefield pulls away for win over Allen – The Wakefield girls used a strong second half to pull away with a 34-28 win at Allen on Friday. Allen led 19-13 at the half, but Wakefield outscored the Lady Eagles 21-9 in the second half to pick up the win. Bri Hingst scored 16 points to lead Allen, while Haley Stapleton and Madisen Schneiders each had six.
LCC falls to five-time defending champs – Laurel-Concord-Coleridge hung tough with five-time defending Class C-2 champion Crofton for a half, but the Warriors had too much as they posted a 70-36 win over the Lady Bears. Lorna Maxon and Bryn Schutte each had eight points to pace the Lady Bears.
Winside falls to Wynot – The Winside boys couldn’t overcome a slow start as they fell to Wynot 51-38 in action at Winside High School. Wynot got out to a 14-4 lead after one period and were able to maintain that double-digit advantage. Jashaun Vyborny scored 15 points, Colton Jensen added nine and Claeb Kampa had seven for the 1-1 Wildcats.
Trojans handle Allen – Wakefield got out to a big lead early and defeated Allen 53-22 in an area matchup. Wakefield led 32-9 at intermission and came away with the easy win. Isaac Camarena had 17 points and Parker Lehmkuhl added 16 for the winners. Tayler Kumm had seven points, Kyle Smith added five and Brogan Jones scored four for the Eagles.
