Ballinger earns second NSIC Player of the Week honor
For the second time in three weeks, Wayne State senior Paige Ballinger was named the Northern Sun Conference South Division Women’s Basketball Player of the Week following her play over the weekend in two Wildcat home wins over Southwest Minnesota State and Sioux Falls.
The 6-foot-1 senior center from Pender averaged a double-double over the weekend with 19.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest, shooting 50 percent (11-22) from the field and 66.7 percent (16-24) at the free throw line. She also averaged 3.0 blocks and 2.5 assists per contest as the Wildcats extended its win streak to eight games in a row.
Ballinger accounted for 19 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three blocks in Friday’s 78-55 win over Southwest Minnesota State and added 19 points with nine rebounds and three blocks in Saturday’s 64-51 win over Sioux Falls.
For the season, Ballinger is averaging 12.4 points and 5.9 rebounds a contest, shooting 48.1 percent from the field and 80.7 percent at the charity stripe. She ranks second in the NSIC in blocked shots per game (2.2), 12th in field goal percentage and 16th in the league in scoring.
