Bentjen wins Stanton Invite medalist
The Wayne High girls golf team got its first tournament medalist of the year as Natalie Bentjen took top honors at Friday’s Stanton Invitational.
The junior linkster shot a 98 and won a playoff over Kailey Johnson of West Point-Beemer to claim top honors in the 30-player tournament.
Senior Cassidy Manz earned her first medal on Friday, placing sixth int he tournament with a 118. Jayden Calhoon rounded out the Wayne effort with a 171. Wayne did not have the minimum four players competing to post a team score.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge claimed runner-up honors and its JV team finished third.
For the LCC varsity, Jadyn Kinkaid was third with a 100, Glenda Vance placed fifth with a 116, Sarah Karnes was seventh with a 120, Maddy Graham finished 12th with a 132 and London VanCleave was 14th with a 132.
For the LCC JV, Sydney Groene was the team’s lone medalist with a 136, finishing 15th. Also competing were Allison Babl with a 139, Brianna Campbell with a 140 and Delaney Hall with a 146.
In triangular action Tuesday at Battle Creek, Wayne shot a 258 to finish behind the host Bravettes (209) and ahead of Elkhorn Valley (271).
Bentjen was runner-up medalist with a 49, Manz shot 64, Bailee Leise had a 70 and Riley Haschke shot 75.
Both Wayne and LCC will compete in the Pierce Invitational on Saturday.
