Blue Devils girls win big on the road

The Wayne High girls basketball team picked up their second straight win of the season with a commanding 79-37 triumph in action Tuesday at Logan View High School.

Wayne broke it open with a big second quarter, as Ashton Boyer hit three 3-pointers and Frankie Klaussen and Sarah Greenwald added trifectas to turn a nine-point first-quarter lead into a 42-21 advantage at the half.

The Blue Devils continued to hit well from the field, shooting 12-of-21 from 3-point range to pull away with the easy win.

Boyer scored a career-high 25 points and was 7-of-10 from beyond the arc for the 2-1 Blue Devils. Klausen also finished in double figures with 16 points, hitting 4-of-5 from long range, and Kylie Hammer added 12 points. Jenna Trenhaile put in five points, Jamie Gamble had four, Greenwald had three and Molly Hoskins scored two.

Klausen led the team with five rebounds while Trenhaile and Gamble each had four. Klausen and Greenwald each had three steals.

Wayne plays at Wahoo in a boys-girls doubleheader on Friday. The two teams are back home Saturday to host Columbus Lakeview.
