Dendinger hits NCAA marks at season opener
Junior Michaela Dendinger reached NCAA provisional marks in the shot put and weight throw to lead the Wayne State College women’s indoor track and field team Friday at the season-opening South Dakota State Preseason Holiday Open held at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, S.D.
Dendinger, who redshirted last year with a foot injury, posted a second place finish in the shot put with a top mark of 46 feet, 10 1/4 inches followed by a third place effort in the weight throw at 58-0 1/4, both NCAA provisional qualifying marks. Other top finishers in field events for the Wildcat women included junior Tessa Ives fifth in the weight throw (48-0 3/4) and Tia Jones ninth in the shot put (39-11 1/4).
Freshman Riana Noelle was fifth in the triple jump (34-9 3/4) and 10th in the long jump (15-2 1/4) while sophomore Shelby Roth cleared 5-1 to take seventh in the high jump.
Top Wildcat running performances included a fourth-place finish from Mary Alderson in the 800-meter run (2:31.73), Melissa Kroll was fifth in the 400-meter dash (59.43) and sophomore Rachel Rauner was 15th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.26 seconds.
Wayne State resumes the indoor track and field season on January 13-14, 2017 at the Holiday Inn Invitational hosted by the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
