Dendinger is national qualifier in three events
Wayne State College junior Michaela Dendinger has qualified in three events for the NCAA Div. II National Outdoor Track and Field Championships that will be held Mary 25-27 at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. and hosted by the University of Tampa. Dendinger will represent Wayne State College in the discus, hammer throw and shot put, with NCAA automatic qualifying marks in all three events.
Dendinger will compete in the hammer throw on Thursday, May 25 at 11:30 a.m. CDT. She enters the national meet ranked second in the event with a top mark of 208 feet, 5 inches, set at the NSIC Championships in St. Paul, Minn. May 12. It was a new school and NSIC meet record.
For the third time in her career, Dendinger is a national qualifier in the discus that will take place on Friday, May 26 at 1 p.m. CDT. She is ranked fifth in NCAA Div. II in the event with a top mark of 172-10 at the Concordia Invite in Seward on April 7. Dendinger was an All-American in the discus in 2015 as a sophomore, placing second at 178-3, a school record she still holds.
Dendinger will close out competition at nationals in the shot put on Saturday, May 27 at 12:15 p.m. CDT. She is ranked second in NCAA Div. II in the event with a top mark of 53-10 1/4 that was good for first place at the NSIC Championships. Dendinger earned All-American honors in the event during the 2015 season with a seventh place finish (49-5 3/4).
