Five errors hurt in Seniors' 7-2 loss at Area 5 tourney
Defensive miscues proved costly for the Wayne American Legion Post 43 Seniors as they committed five errors in a 5-2 decision to Wahoo in action Saturday at West Point.
Wahoo strung together four singles in the opening inning to take a 2-0 lead before Wayne came back with a run on an RBI single by Justin Dean, scoring Payten Gamble.
Both teams put up runs in the second frame. Wahoo took advantage of a Wayne miscue to score, but Wayne came back with an RBI groundout by Tyler Lutt that plated Ryan Jaixen to make it 3-2.
It was all Wahoo after that, as they were to put up two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth before ending the scoring on a solo homer by Reilly Hancock.
Dean had two of Wayne’s seven hits in the game to lead the offense. Lutt, Gamble, Reid Korth, Adam Bentjen and Mason Lee also had singles. Tucker Nichols took the pitching loss.
Wayne (13-11) will face West Point in an elimination game Sunday at 4 p.m. at Anderson Field.
