Juniors continue their winning ways
The Wayne American Legion Post 43 Juniors spotted Wisner-Pilger-Howells-Dodge two runs, then unleashed a 12-hit assault over two innings to post a 15-2 win Monday at Hank Overin Field.
After the visitors tagged winning pitcher Jacob Kneifl for a pair of runs, the Wayne nine came out swinging in the bottom of the third with seven runs, then added eight more in the fifth to end the game on the 10-run rule.
The big third inning started with an RBI single by Gunnar Jorgensen, scoring Josh Lutt. Kneifl followed with an RBI single to score Hagan Miller, and the bases were cleared on the next pitch when Blake Bartos tripled to left.
Bartos came home one pitch later on a Brock Hopkins single, and Hopkins later scored on an error to give Wayne the 7-2 advantage.
Wayne kept it going in the fourth, as Kneifl and Hopkins had RBI doubles, Lutt and Kneifl added RBI singles and a walk and a hit batter brought in two more runs.
Kneifl had three hits and four RBI’s, Hopkins added two hits and three RBI’s and Jorgensen posted two hits for Wayne. Bartos also drove in three runs and Jorgensen, KNeifl, Bartos, Hopkins and Trevor DeBoer each scored twice.
Kneifl pitched six innings, allowing two hits while striking out six before Eischeid came in with an inning of scoreless relief, striking out two.
The 5-0 Wayne Juniors host Battle Creek on Wednesday and play in the Wood Bat Tournament this weekend before traveling to Ponca on Monday.
