Juniors end losing skid with 15-0 shutout
The Wayne American Legion Post 43 Juniors snapped a three-game losing streak in fine fashion, knocking out 10 hits and using five errors to post a 15-0 win over Arlington in action Wednesday at Hank Overin Field.
The Juniors took control early, putting up five runs in the first inning. Gunnar Jorgensen had an RBI single and Max Miller capped the inning with a two-run single to stake Wayne to the early advantage.
The hits kept coming for Wayne, as they tacked on three more in the second, three in the third and four in the fourth to finish off the easy win.
A throwing error led to two runs in the second, followed by an RBI single by Toby Braun. In the third, Jacob Kneifl drove home Reid Korth with a line drive single to right field, Kneifl and Jorgensen later came home when Braun’s ground ball went through the second baseman’s legs, giving Wayne an 11-0 lead.
In the fourth, two errors led to two more runs, with Kneifl driving home another run with a groundout and Brooks Kneifl bringing Jorgensen home on a sacrifice fly to close out the scoring.
Brock Hopkins led Wayne’s 10-hit attack with a 3-for-4 performance. Jorgensen added two hits and scored four runs while driving in two. Korth came home four times and Miller, Jacob Kneifl and Brooks Kneifl each drove in two runs.
Jacob Kneifl got the win on the mound, allowing two hits over four innings with five strikeouts and a walk. Blake Bartos pitched a spotless fifth to close out the game.
The 12-4-1 Juniors play at Creighton on Thursday to start a four-game road swing.
