Metz wins triple jump to lead effort at USD Invite
Wayne State senior Brady Metz won the triple jump to lead the Wildcat track and field team at the South Dakota Invitational held Wednesday at the Lillibridge Track Complex in Vermillion, S.D.
Metz posted a top mark of 47 feet, 7 inches to win the event and be the top Wildcat finisher. Freshman Preston Davis was the next highest finisher, taking third in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.35 seconds.
Senior sprinter Braxton Adams came in seventh in the 100-meter dash at 10.83 seconds and was 10th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.80 seconds. Sophomore Habib Jallow recorded a seventh-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.28 seconds.
Bryce Holcomb was eighth in the 800-meter run (2:00.25) with teammate Nathan Pearson right behind in 10th in a time of 2:00.51. Jack Doughty took ninth in the 5,000-meter run at 16:30.22.
In women’s action, senior Mary Alderson’s fifth place finish in the 200-meter dash (25.65) was the top finish for the Wayne State women.
The quartet of Alderson, Sophie Noecker, Alyssa Kimpson and Joan Jelimo placed sixth in the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 4:03.09.
Jelimo was 13th in the 800-meter dash at 2:23.55 while Hanna Lazure tied for 13th in the high jump, clearing 4-9.
Wayne State will have throwers compete Thursday at the UNK Invite in Kearney while other Wildcat athletes will participate in the Sioux City Relays on Thursday and Friday.
