Protzman named NSIC Defensive Player of the Week
Wayne State’s Jacob Protzman was named the Northern Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in Saturday night’s 23-14 NSIC road win at Southwest Minnesota State.
Protzman, a 6-foot-4, 250-pound junior defensive end, recorded five sacks for 34 yards and had eight total tackles with six solo stops in Saturday’s win over the Mustangs. His performance highlighted a Wayne State defense that notched eight total sacks and allowed just 142 yards of total offense in the victory.
The five sacks in a single game topped the previous school record of four set by Brad Ottis in 1992 against Iowa Wesleyan.
It’s the first time that Protzman has collected NSIC Player of the Week honors.
