Seniors fall at home to W-P-H-D
Visiting Wisner-Pilger-Howells-Dodge erupted for five runs in the second inning and pulled away with a 9-1 win over Wayne in action Monday at Hank Overin Field.
The visitors touched Tyler Lutt for five in the second inning to take control of the game, then extended their lead to 9-0 in the sixth with single runs in the fourth and fifth and two more in the sixth.
Wayne avoided the shutout in the bottom of the sixth, as Payten Gamble singled and scored on a fielder’s choice by Zane Jackson.
Wayne was limited to three hits in the contest, with Gamble, Lutt and Jackson recording safeties. Lutt pitched 4 1/3 innings in taking the loss, with Tucker Nichols and Ryan Jaixen pitching in relief.
Wayne hosts Battle Creek on Wednesday and will host the Wood Bat Tournament this weekend. They play at Ponca on Monday.
