Shootout 2019 -- Championship matchups are set

The second day of the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout saw eight competitive matchups as the brackets for both girls and boys were settled for Monday’s placement games.

The girls final will feature West Point_Beemer and Hastings St. Cecilia, while the boys final features Auburn and Hartington Cedar Catholic.

Wayne’s boys lost in the semifinals and will play for third place on Monday, while the Blue Devil girls fell in consolation action and will pay for seventh place on Monday morning.

West Point-Beemer 40, Arlington 26 —
The Lady Cadets rode the game-high 21 points of Sidney Swanson to a spot in Monday’s championship game. Arlington was led by Kate Miller’s 11 points.

Hastings St. Cecilia 47, Pender 35 — The Bluehawks held off a fourth-quarter rally by the Lady Pendragons to move on to Monday’s championship game. Tori Thomas paced St. Cecilia with a game-high 15 points and Makenna Asher added 10. Ashley Ostrand led Pender with 11 points.

LCC 41, Auburn 29 —
The Lady Bears built a 10-point halftime lead and kept that advantage to advance to the fifth-place game. Delaney Ehlers scored a game-high 17 points and Kinsley Hall added nine for LCC. Auburn was led by Jocelyn Lambert with nine and Desire Mowery with eight.

Hartington CC 65, Wayne 49 — Brynn Wortmann had a game-high 26 points to lead three Lady Trojans in double figures. Makenna Noecker aded 18 points and Aiden Wortmann put in 12 for the winners. Brooklyn Kruse score 17 points and Frankie Klausen added 11 for the Blue Devils.

Auburn 63, LCC 50 —
The Bulldogs got off to a fast start and held off a fourth-quarter rally by the Bears to move on to Monday’s final. Cam Binder and Dan Frary each had 18 points while Josh Lambert added 12 for the winners. Noah Schutte had a game-high 27 points and Ty Erwin added 12 for the Bears.

Hartington CC 58, Wayne 44 — The Trojans got 16 points from Tate Thoene and 14 from Brady Steffen to hold off the host Blue Devils and move on to Monday’s championship game. Tyrus Eischeid had a game-high 18 points and Shea Sweetland added 11 for the Blue Devils.

Arlington outscored the Cadets 24-10 in the second half to come away with the consolation win. Aiden Foreman led three Eagles in double figures with a game-high 20 points. Colby Grefe and Barrett Nielsen added 14 and 11 points, respectively. Keegan Doggett led the Cadets with 18 points.

Hastings SC 60, Pender 34 — The Bluehawks built a 16-point lead after one quarter and put the game away in the fourth to advance to the fifth-place game. Brayden Schropp paced the Bluehawks with 16 points, while Jaxon Maise scored a game-high 20 to pace the Pendragons.
