Softball team gets another shutout win
The Wayne High softball team posted its 12th shutout of the season as they blanked Columbus 9-0 in six innings Thursday in Columbus.
The 19-0 Blue Devils scored single runs in each of the first four innings, then added two in the fifth and three in the sixth to end the game on the eight-run rule.
An error got Wayne on the board in the first inning, and Masyn Dorey singled home Josie Thompson with the second run of the game in the next frame.
In the third, Sidney Biggerstaff’s single plated Virginia Kniesche, and Thompson brought Kayla Fleming home with a triple in the fourth.
In the fifth, Tori Kniesche doubled home Annie Kniesche and Virginia Kniesche stole home later in the inning to make it 6-0. Wayne got three more in the sixth, using a Columbus error, a Kendall Dorey RBI groundout and an RBI triple by Annie Kniesche to finish off the win.
Tori Kniesche had three hits and Biggerstaff, Thompson and Annie Kniesche each had two to highlight a 12-hit attack. Thompson, Annie Kniesche and Virginia Kniesche each scored two runs. Tori Kniesche had two doubles and Fleming added a double. Thompson and Annie Kniesche both had triples.
Tori Kniesche got the complete-game win, throwing a two-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts and one walk.
Wayne is back in action Thursday with a home matchup against Wisner-Pilger.
