Three boys, one girl sign with WSC track
Three boys and one girl have signed letters of intent to participate in track and field and/or cross country at Wayne State College starting in the 2020-21 school year.
Annie McCartney of Lawrence-Nelson High School has signed a national letter of intent to attend Wayne State College and compete in cross country and track and field for the Wildcat women’s teams in the 2020-21 academic year. McCartney becomes the eighth member of the 2020 Wildcat women’s track and field recruiting class for head coach Marlon Brink.
McCartney was a multi-sport standout at Lawrence-Nelson High School, starting four years in track and field, three years in volleyball and two in basketball. She was a three-year Class D state qualifier in track and field – two years in the 800-meter run and three years in the 3,200-meter relay. During her senior season, McCartney was a starter on the Lawrence-Nelson volleyball team that was 31-5 and placed third in Class D2 and also started on the girls basketball team that made the Class D2 state tournament with a 25-2 record.
McCartney also excelled in the classroom, earning Academic All-State honors in all three sports and was an All-State honorable mention selection in volleyball and basketball. She will join older sister Molly as a member of the Wildcat women’s cross country and track and field teams.
Keithan Beasley from Omaha, Brandon Mundorf of Springview and Gabriel Peitz from Wakefield have announced their commitments to attend Wayne State College and compete for the Wildcat men’s track and field team in the 2020-21 academic year.
Beasley is a sprinter/jumper from Omaha Burke High School. As a junior in 2019, he ran the leadoff leg on the All Class Gold State Champion 400-meter relay team and was a Class A state qualifier in the 100-meter dash. Beasley was a four-year letterwinner in track and field.
Mundorf is a distance runner from Keya Paha County High School where he was a multi-sport standout in football, basketball and track and field. In 2019 as a junior, he medaled in three events, helping North Central High School to a Class D state runner-up finish. Mundorf was fourth in the 1,600-meter run (4:43.91) and fifth in the 3,200-meter run (10:34.08) while running a leg on the state champion 3,200-meter relay team. He also medaled in three events as a sophomore in 2018, placing seventh in the 3,200-meter run and eighth in the 1,600-meter run to go with another first-place finish in the 3,200-meter relay.
Peitz is a middle distance runner from Wakefield High School where he was a four-year letterwinner in football, basketball and track and field. Last spring as a junior, Peitz was a Class C state qualifier in the 800-meter run and as a sophomore competed in the Class C 3,200-meter relay for the Trojans. In football, Peitz was an All-District selection as a junior and senior and played on Wakefield’s Class C2 basketball state tournament team as a junior. Peitz earned Academic All-State honors in football and basketball as a junior and senior.
Mundorf and Peitz will also compete for the WSC cross country team.
