Three NCAA provisional marks set at season-opening meet
Three Wayne State throwers posted NCAA provisional marks as the Wildcat indoor track and field team opened the season Friday at the South Dakota Holiday Open in Brookings. S.D.
Wayne State College throwers Cade Kalkowski and Dylan Kaup reached NCAA provisional marks in the weight throw to lead the Wildcat men. Kalkowski recorded a top throw of 63 feet, 0 1/4 inches to place fourth overall, and Kaup placed 11th with a throw of 57-10 1/4, both NCAA provisional marks.
Other results for the Wayne State men included:
Weight throw: 14. Richard Sweeney, 55-0 1/4.
Long jump: 6. Mikhail Sands, 21-8 1/4.
Shot put: 12. Jayle Hinkle, 49-2 1/4.
High jump: 12. Aaron English, 6-2 3/4.
400: Jacob Ladage, 51.01.
60 hurdles: 14. Preston Davis, 8.67.
In women’s action, Jordyn Pester was the top finisher for the Wayne State women, posing a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.78 seconds, and Mckenzie Scheil reached an NCAA provisional mark in the weight throw, placing seventh with a toss of 58-3.

Wayne State College will resume the 2019 indoor track and field season at the Doane Invitational in Crete on Saturday, Jan. 12.
