Walling shoots 86 in state golf tournament
COLUMBUS — Wayne High freshman Tanner Walling carded an 86 in Wednesday’s round of the Class B State Boys Golf Championships Wednesday at the Elks Club.
After starting with a pair of bogeys, Walling birdied the 493-yard par 5 on the third hole to get back to 1-over par. He followed that with a bogey, a double bogey and a par before finishing with two bogeys and a par for a 42 on the first nine.
Walling struggled on the back nine with three consecutive bogeys, followed by a triple bogey and two more bogeys. He parred the final three holes to shoot a 44 on the back side.
Walling’s score tied for 27th among 73 golfers competing in the tournament. Luke Gutschewski of Mount Michael shot a 1-under par 71 to claim individual honors.
North Platte shot a 326 and edged Adams Central by two shots to win the team title in the 18-hole tournament, which was cut in half after rain shut down the first day of competition.
