Walling ties for 10th, qualifies for state golf

BLAIR — The Wayne High boys golf team will have a spot reserved in the state golf tournament next week.

Blue Devil freshman Tanner Walling punched a ticket to state by tying for 10th place in the B-2 district meet Monday at River Wilds Golf Club in Blair.

Walling tied with Avery Sturtz of Douglas County West with an 85, giving both players a spot in the state tournament that runs next Tuesday and Wednesday at the Columbus Elks Club.

As a team, the Blue Devils finished fifth in the 12-team tournament with a 378. The three teams qualifying for state were Omaha Skutt (329), Bishop Neumann (333) and Bennington (345).

Following Walling for the Blue Devils was Christopher Woerdemann with a 91, Jonah Brodersen with a 94, Zach Urbanec with a 108 and Shea Sweetland with a 110.
