Wayne girls fifth, boys eighth at cross country opener
ALBION — The Wayne High girls cross country team posted a fifth-place finish and the Blue Devils boys came home in eighth at Friday’s Boone Central Invitational, held at the Albion Country Club.
Laura Hasemann came home with a medal to lead the Wayne High girls, finishing 10th overall in a time of 21:28.
Following Hasemann was Fatima Lucas-Garcia, finishing 24th in 22:54. Autumn Avery was 29th, Allyson Avery finished 32nd, Maddie Beair was 35th and Erin Avery placed 42nd to round out the Wayne varsity’s top six runners.
In boys action, Christopher Woerdemann paced the Blue Devils, finishing 25th in 18:49. Sean Aschoff followed in 39th place, with Hunter Schultz (41st), Treyton Blecke (42nd), Ashton Munsell (44th) and Liam Spieker (51st) rounding out the boys top six.
The Wayne High cross country team will compete at the Norfolk Catholic Invitational on Thursday and will host the Wayne Invitational on Monday, Sept. 16, at the Wayne Country Club.
