Wayne High wins dual on eighth criteria

The Wayne High wrestling team and Norfolk Catholic battled to a 36-36 deadlock that was decided with the eighth tie-breaking criteria Thursday at Wayne High School.

Both teams earned four wins by pins and two forfeits, so the tie-breaking procedure was used to determine a winner. The eighth criteria — most first points scored — gave the edge to Wayne, as they had five first-match takedowns to three for the Knights.

Winning matches for Wayne were Reece Jaqua (126), Cameron Muhs (132), Juan Vergara (145) and Dakota Spann (195). Harley Wheeler (170) and Mike Leatherdale (285) accepted forfeits.

Wayne is in action Saturday at the West Point-Beemer Duals.
