Wayne Ponies blast O’Neill in season opener

The Wayne Ponies got a leadoff homer from Kaleb Moormeier to help them to a 17-8 blowout of O’Neill Saturday in a nine-inning game at O’Neill.

Moormeier helped his own cause by taking the second pitch of the game over the wall. He pitched three innings and struck out five while allowing one run and one walk.

Devin Anderson was 2-for-4 with a double and triple while Kaden Keller and Jase Dean each had two hits. Alex Frank, Ryan Karsky, Jameson Meyer and Caden Wiese each added hits.

Anderson pitched one inning of relief, giving up three runs. Keller pitched two shutout innings and struck out five, while Dean allowed four runs and struck out six in three innings.

The Ponies are home Wednesday at home against Pierce at 7 p.m.
