Wayne State wins NSIC SAAC Cup
Wayne State College was named as the winner of the second-annual Northern Sun Conference Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Cup at the NSIC SAAC Summit held at Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D. The award was presented during a joint meeting of student athletes and the NSIC Board of Directors.
Wayne State scored 9,056 points to defeat second-place St. Cloud State (8,955) by 101 points, with Minnesota Duluth in third at 7,750 points.
During the 2018-19 school year, Wayne State’s SAAC group raised nearly $4,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation along with participating in all three NSIC SAAC initiatives and worked seven other campus/community events throughout the year. Those events included the annual Student Athlete Social, Trick or Treat for Cans food drive in late October, the annual Pie in the Face contest that raised money for the Wayne Backpack program, raised monetary and food donations and filled bags for the Wayne Backpack program and numerous other volunteering at campus and community events.
The NSIC SAAC Cup is a traveling trophy that is awarded annually at the SAAC Summit. Institutions receive points throughout the year based on attending meetings and work in community service/engagement projects along with raising money for Make-A-Wish and other worthy causes.
Wayne State placed second in last year’s standings, trailing only Minnesota Duluth.
