Wildcats continue winning ways, sweep trio over Sioux Falls
Wayne State used the deep ball to finish off another weekend sweep, completing a three-game streak over Sioux Falls with a 4-2 win Sunday at the Chapman Complex.
Sioux Falls touched freshman Cade Herrmann for a pair of runs in the third inning, but the Wildcats came back with three home runs to complete the three-game sweep of the Cougars.
CJ Neumann got the rally started in the third with a solo shot to right field in the bottom of the third, and Kyle Thompson followed with a two-run homer to give the Wildcats the lead for good at 3-2.
Wayne State added an insurance run in the ffith when Bryce Bisenius hit his team-leading eighth homer of the year, then left it up to Herrmann, who allowed only one hit and two walks after giving up the two third-inning runs. He pitched seven innings and struck out five while allowing five hits before Lawson Zenner came on to get the save as Wayne State won its 18th game in the last 20 outings.
Andrew Hanson led the Wildcats with three hits, while Bisenius was 2-for-3 in the win.
The Wildcats (27-9, 18-5 NSIC) travel to Winona, Minn. on Tuesday to take on Winona State in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
