Wildcats post good marks at Concordia Invite
Senior Joan Jelimo won the 600-meter dash and freshman Mikayla Marvin set a new school record in the pole vault to lead the Wayne State College women’s indoor track and field team Friday at the Concordia Invite in Seward.
Jelimo crossed the tape first with a time of 1:38.81 followed by Molli Vasa in sixth place at 1:41.46 and Marin Jetensky seventh (1:41.59).
Marvin bettered her own school record in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet, 2 1/2 inches to place eighth overall.
Jordyn Pester captured second place in the 400-meter dash in 57.46 seconds and sophomore Jadin Wagner recorded a second-place finish in the shot put at 47-6 1/2.
The Wildcat 1,600-meter relay quartet of Pester, Jelimo, Jetensky and Vasa came in second place with a time of 4:02.32.
Wayne native Andrea Torres took third in the 3,000-meter run (19:52.22) followed by Joana Sato eighth (21:27.38) and Amanda Mote ninth (21:32.36).
Molly McCartney posted a fourth place finish in the mile run (5:38.43) with Hannah Perkins ninth at 6:10.38.
Other top finishers included Mckenzie Scheil fourth in the weight throw (57-2 1/4), Kim Lowman sixth in the 1,000-meter run (3:13.31), and Josephine Peitz sixth in the 800-meter run at 2:33.84.
Brooklynn Chipps was seventh in the shot put (41-11 1/2) with Tia Jones eighth at the same mark. Hanna Lazure was eighth in the high jump (5-1), Chipps eighth in the weight throw (52-8) and Nicoel Heeren ninth at 52-4 3/4.
In men’s competition, Dylan Kessler posted the top Wildcat finish, placing second in the 5,000-meter run at 15:54.61 with teammate Bailey Peckham fourth at 16:21.80.
Clay Kramper claimed fourth place in the 200-meter dash in 22.67 seconds while Alvyns Alcenord took fifth in the 60-meter dash (7.07) and fifth in the 200 at 22.78 seconds.
Robert Sullivan made the 60-meter hurdles finals and took fourth place in 8.49 seconds.
The 1,600-meter relay team of Jacob Ladage, Bryce Holcomb, Nathan Pearson and Preston Davis took fourth place in a time of 3:29.04.
In the 600-meter dash, Bryce Holcomb took fourth place (1:24.86), Nathan Pearson finished fifth (1:25.94) and Jacob Kemper came in sixth at 1:26.62.
The mile run saw Brock Hegarty take fifth place in a time of 4:36.08 followed by Garrett Wells in ninth place at 4:50.53.
Other Wildcat finishers in running events included Nathan Hiemer sixth in the 1,000-meter run at 2:40.26, Garrett Wells seventh in the 800-meter run (2:12.75) and Jacob Ladage seventh in the 400-meter dash (51.80).
In field events, Matthew Nemec came in eighth place in the weight throw at 54-4 1/2, followed by Richard Sweeney in ninth at 52-7 1/2. Mikhail Sands was ninth in the long jump (21-8 3/4) while Aaron English tied for ninth in the high jump (5-11 1/2).
Wayne State will compete in the South Dakota State Tune-up Invite on Friday in Brookings, S.D.
