Wobken earns Academic All-District honors
Wayne State senior softball player Katelyn Wobken was selected to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District VII Softball Team, receiving First Team honors.
The award is selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) and recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
It’s the second time in three years that Wobken has received first-team Academic All-District softball honors. First Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Ballot with first and second-team Academic All-America honorees to be announced in June.
Wobken, a 5-foot-7 senior catcher from Scribner, carries a 3.92 grade-point average majoring in chemistry/health science (pre-med). She also served as President of the WSC Student Athlete Advisory Committee this year.
On the field, Wobken was a second-team All-NSIC catcher for a second straight season after recording a .377 batting average this season, starting all 45 games behind the plate. She tied for the team lead in hits with 60 while leading the team in runs scored (36), at bats (159) and stolen bases (18-18) to go with nine doubles, two triples, four homers and 25 RBI.
For her career, Wobken finished tied for sixth in triples (9), tied for seventh in home runs (17), eighth in stolen bases (40-42) and 10th in total bases (258).
