Wobken earns thrid-team Academic All-American honors

Katelyn Wobken of Wayne State College was selected to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America Softball Team, receiving third-team honors.

The award is voted on by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) and recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Wobken becomes the fourth Wildcat in program history to receive Academic All-American honors, and the first since Lexie Loos received a first-team selection in 2016. She joins Loos, Katie Goetzinger (First Team, 2011, Second Team, 2010) and Heather Conley (Second Team, 2002).

A 5-foot-7 senior catcher from Scribner, Wobken carries a 3.92 grade-point average majoring in chemistry/health science (pre-med).  She also served as President of the WSC Student Athlete Advisory Committee this year. Last month, Wobken was named for the second time in three years as a recipient of first-team Academic All-District softball honors.

On the field, Wobken was a second-team All-NSIC catcher for a second straight season after recording a .377 batting average this season, starting all 45 games behind the plate. She tied for the team lead in hits with 60 while leading the team in runs scored (36), at bats (159) and stolen bases (18-18) to go with nine doubles, two triples, four homers and 25 RBI.

For her career, Wobken finished tied for sixth in triples (9), tied for seventh in home runs (17), eighth in stolen bases (40-42) and 10th in total bases (258).
