WSC runners start season at Augustana Twilight meet
The Wayne State cross country teams debuted Friday in the Augustana Twilight Invitational, held at Yankton Trails Park in Sioux Falls, S.D.
In women’s action, sophomores Allie Rosener and Andrea Torres were the top finishers for the Wayne State women’s team, which took 14th out of 25 teams with a score of 445.
Rosener was the first Wildcat to cross the finish line on the 5,000-meter course with a time of 19:59.90 to place 105th out of a field of 306 runners. Wayne sophomore Andrea Torres followed in 120th place at 20:08.93.
Junior Briana Crouch was next in 141st place in 20:31.64, with teammates Alex Bauer and Kim Johnson close behind in 142nd and 143rd place with times of 20:32.67 and 20:33.55.
Other Wildcat runners included Marin Jetensky (180th, 21:09.93), Amanda Mote (184th, 21:11.53) and Josephine Peitz (232nd, 22:06.00).
In men’s action, the Wildcats placed 19th out of 27 teams with a score of 525 points.
Senior Dylan Kessler was the top Wildcat finisher, taking 113th out of a field of 320 runners with a time of 21:03.20. Junior Brock Hegarty was next in 129th place at 21:.17.90 with Bailey Peckham 132nd (21:18.80) and freshman Will McGonigal 141st in a time of 21:29.60.
Other Wildcat finishers were Nathan Pearson (170th, 21:54.80), Bryce Holcomb (180th, 22:02.10), Nathan Hiemer (185th, 22:05.60) and Jakob Kemper (235th, 22:49.90).
Wayne State will compete in the Dakota State Invitational on Saturday in Madison, S.D.
