WSC softball team earns Easton/NFCA award
The 2018 Wayne State College softball team received the Easton/NFCA Academic Team award announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Thirteen Wildcat players were also honored with Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete honor for posting an individual grade-point average of 3.50 or better.
As a team, Wayne State ranked 12th in NCAA Div. II with a stellar 3.624 grade-point average and was one of five teams from the Northern Sun Conference to receive the award.
Individually, 13 Wildcat players received the Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete honor, including four players that posted perfect 4.00 grade-point averages. The list includes seniors Jordyn Breitbarth (3.74) and Katelyn Wobken (4.0), juniors Abbie Hix (3.7), Alyx Hagen (3.74), Taylor Menard (3.94), Baylee Rial (3.54), Riley Vanderveen (3.783) and Morgan Vasa (3.54), sophomores Allison Niemeier (3.54) and Jenna Stewart (4.0) and freshmen Ashley Hernandez (4.0), Maddie Moser (4.0), and Jenna Stewart (4.0).
