Warren F. Steele

    Warren F. Steele, 66, of Thurston, died on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender.
   Services will be held on Monday, May 7 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Emerson; Pastor Gary Harris will be officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Church with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson.
    Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.

    Warren F. Steele was born in Wakefield on Nov. 21, 1951 to Forrest and Bernadine (Bernie) Steele of Emerson. The family lived at Wayne, where he attended Frog Pond School, then moved to Emerson, where he attended Emerson-Hubbard School until he graduated in 1970. He married Jackie Denker on July 28, 1972 at St. Paul Church in Emerson. He continued to work on the family farm until he bought and operated the Corner Bar in 1981 to 1994. He continued his love for bartending at the Argosy's Belle of Sioux City Casino and worked at Emerson Manufacturing after selling the bar in 1994. He also became the owner of Steele’s Trucking & Son and worked for Tom Guntren Trucking. After semi-retiring he became employed at the Iron Horse Casino so he could be a part of the bar scene to visit, meet new people and tell jokes.
    Survivors include his wife, Jackie, of Thurston; a son, Doug Steele (Patti Strawn) of McCook Lake, S.D. and children Willis, Jackson and Bella Strawn; a daughter, Amy (Stephen) Munderloh of Wakefield, and children Anthony and Lauren; a son, Dustin (Jessique) and their children Drake, Jack and Leni; two sisters, Nancy (Don) Starzl of Yankton, S.D. and Jane (Fred) Kellogg of Dakota Dunes, SD and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
    He was preceded in death by parents, Forrest and Bernie Steele, father and mother-in-law, Ted and Twila Denker, brothers-in-law, Ronnie, Bill, Don Denker and sisters-in-laws, Bev, Lois, Twila, and Janet; niece, Teresa, and nephews Merlin and Creed.
