Winnefred L. Janssen, 88, Randolph, died Friday, April 26, 2019 at the Colonial Manor in Randolph.
Services for Winnefred L. Janssen, 88, Randolph, will be at Thursday, May 2 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Randolph. The Rev. Trudy J. Powell will officiate, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, rural McLean. Visitation is from 4 – 8 p.m. with 7:30 p.m. prayer service Wednesday, May 1 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, under direction of Johnson Funeral Home in Randolph.
Winnefred Lorraine (Heitman) Janssen was born Sept. 13, 1930 to Henry and Gesena (Post) Heitman in Coleridge. She graduated from Coleridge High School and worked at Kady’s Café in Coleridge, Jim’s Food Center in Randolph and Colonial Manor of Randolph. She married Warren LeRoy Janssen on Dec. 6, 1949 at her parent’s home in Coleridge. To this union eight children were born: Lynette, LeRoy, Kevin, Gary, Darlene, Joni, Larry and Boyd. Winnie was a loving wife, mom and grandma, and was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Luther League Sponsor, call committee chair, and a charter member of the Ruth/Eve Circle. Winnie loved her family and made awesome cinnamon rolls and the best fried chicken and potato salad. She will be remembered for always helping others and her beautiful smile.
Survivors include a son-in-law, Larry Straka, of Battle Creek; son, LeRoy (Judy) Janssen of Lincoln; daughter-in-law, KayLynn Janssen, of Randolph; son, Gary (Lynette) Janssen of Burnt Hills, N.Y.; daughters, Darlene (Greg) Dowling and Joni (Dan) Backer, both of Randolph; son, Larry (Jane) Janssen of Randolph and son, Boyd Janssen of Yankton, S.D.; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother; spouse, Warren; daughter, Lynette Straka; son, Kevin Janssen; sisters, Leona Hansen, Velma Nordby, Alice Kunzman and Sue Yerger; brothers, Don, Hank, Lyle, Gayle, Claire, Wendell, and John, and special friend, Keith Nissen.
Pallbearers will be Winnefred’s grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be Winnefred’s granddaughters and spouses of grandchildren.
